It was a bitterly cold Thursday night as United’s under 23s took on Hailsham in the SCFL under 23 East League.
It was also potentially a night of records: Baz Kartal opened the scoring on 37seconds(!) for United, certainly one of the fastest goals scored in the u23s, if not THE fastest, plus, in a week of controversy over Ashley Young and his son, both Dad Nathan and son Ashley scored- we are scurrying around to find instances of a sanctioned league match where this has happened!
In all truth, the match was almost over before it started, the half time and full time score were the same; it took just 38 minutes for United to score 6, after Baz, it was Tyanno Wilson, Ash Crabb, a belter from Arthur Grout, Ash again and then Nathan, with two replies from Hailsham going almost unheralded.
It Moves the 23s up the table into 3rd place, and they look razor sharp once more. The u18s are top of their table, and the firsts are just 3 points off the playoffs themselves, so everything to play for as 2025 dawns!
